Fans of the dawn-of-the-Internet cartoon Homestar Runner will no doubt look at a Cadillac XT6, even wrapped in camo as this example is, and wish for 19 more of the forthcoming three-row machines. Twenty XT6s, after all, would offer a full 60 rows of Cadillac-style comfort to the crossover-buying set.

Based on a long-wheelbase variant of the corporate C1XX platform, which also underpins GM crossovers such as the Chevrolet Traverse and the Buick Enclave, the XT6 will slot into Cadillac’s lineup between the body-on-frame Escalade and the XT5 CUV. Although we know nothing in the way of powertrain details, we assume the XT5’s 310-hp 3.6-liter V-6 is a lock, and we wouldn’t be terribly surprised to see the turbocharged version of that engine, which has seen duty in the XTS, make an appearance in the long-wheelbase ute.

The new large Caddy seems to share a roofline with its corporate cousin, the cavernous Traverse-although, if the camo isn’t playing tricks with our eyes, the XT6 seems to have a faster rear-window line than the Chevy. Lamps on this mule are mere projectors and off-the-shelf LEDs, which make sussing out the new sport-ute’s luminous signature difficult, but we imagine the lighting setup will follow the path laid down by the refreshed CT6.

Rumored to be bowing at the 2018 L.A. auto show this fall and set to hit dealer lots in the spring of 2019, the XT6 will compete with established segment players such as the Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60, Volvo XC90, and the 10Best-winning Mercedes-Benz GLS-class, as well as newcomers such as the three-row variant of the stalwart Lexus RX. And if Cadillac offers the turbocharged six, the XT6 will stand as a direct challenge to the upcoming twin-turbo hybrid Lincoln Aviator. We have a feeling that even Stinko Man could get behind that
