Gran Turismo's Creator Raced the Nurburgring 24 Hours For Research

From Road & Track

The Gran Turismo car-racing video game series holds a special place in many enthusiasts' hearts. For a number of us, it was the first taste of feeling what it's like to sit in the driver's seat, and pilot a car down the road. Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo, has been racing cars himself since 2009, and this year, he was invited to drive a BMW M6 GT3 at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

Gran Turismo TV followed Yamauchi through his journey racing with the Playstation-sponsored BMW and its team. They've put together a fantastic 18-minute documentary detailing the entire process, all the way to the checkered flag.

The video team interviews Yamauchi and his fellow teammates, as well as many different engineers responsible for getting the M6 racecar to the finish line. They speak everything from English, to Japanese, to German, so make sure to keep closed captioning on for this one.

It's a beautiful piece of work, showcasing exactly how tough the N24 can be on a race team. Video games might teach you the best line, but the only way to truly experience something as unique as an endurance race is to drive in one.
