This Grassroots Swedish Racing Series is Full of Professional-Grade Action

From Road & Track

We all love watching videos of FIA Global Rallycross cars smashing into each other mid-air and battling out on courses around the world, but what if someone wanted to get into the action themselves? Welcome to Folk Racing.

Folk Racing is a down-to-earth, grassroots racing series in Sweden that isn't all that different from your local WRC event. It's full of sliding, jumps, and a serious amount of contact. The difference? The cost of entry, of course. All you need is a working, two-wheel-drive, naturally aspirated car with a cage, and that's it.

Unsurprisingly, there's a catch. At the end of every race, any car in the field can be bought for around 6500 Swedish Krona, or $753. This stops people from dumping too much money into their cars, and keeps racing costs low.

Carfection put together a great video explaining ins and outs of Folk Racing, interviewing drivers, some of whom have been in the sport for 35 years. Next time you're in Sweden, you might want to check out a race.
