Griswold man charged with forcing car into Norwich restaurant

NORWICH — A 63-year-old Griswold man was arrested on an impaired driving charge on Friday after police said he struck a vehicle that in turn crashed into an open Norwich restaurant.

Martin McKinney, of 8 Totem Lane, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and failure to drive right.

Norwich police officers were dispatched to the area of the Love Thai by Thai restaurant at 278 W. Thames Street at approximately 8 p.m. for a report of a multiple motor vehicle accident with injuries. Officer said McKinney struck another vehicle with his car, forcing the struck vehicle into the restaurant.

Police said individuals at the scene refused medical treatment.

McKinney allegedly failed a field sobriety test and was initially held on a $5,000 bond. He is due to appear in Norwich Superior Court on April 4.
