Yahoo Autos This Guy Drove His Nissan GT-R to Mount Everest Base Camp
Everest Base Camp in Tibet is a long way from the summit of Mount Everest, but it still sits at an astonishing 17,000 feet above sea level. Not exactly supercar territory, but that didn't stop Singaporean Kah Chuan Hoong and his Nissan GT-R. On Monday, Hoong's GT-R became the first supercar to ever reach the Base Camp.
Hoong's been posting about his exploits on Facebook, and you really ought to click through his incredible pictures. He started in Singapore earlier this month and drove all the way through mainland China to get to Tibet. Hoong hasn't detailed exactly how he prepared his GT-R for the trek, though pictures show a significantly increased ride height and a smaller front bumper.
Throughout the journey, Hoong had to navigate through thick mud, narrow dirt roads, and mountain passes. He made it to Everest Base Camp on Monday, took some pictures for proof, and is now headed back to Singapore. Hoong will have to drive through China, Malaysia and Thailand, and he anticipates arriving home sometime in November.
Hoong's journey would be a hell of a road trip in any car–let alone a Nissan GT-R. It says a lot about the Nissan that it was able to make it there at all, and we applaud Hoong for doing something this spectacularly wild. We wish him luck on his return trip.
