Having a Peugeot 205 GTI With Both Engine Options

Compared to blue-blooded sports cars, hot hatches may be a bargain when new, but as time moves on, bringing them back to their former glory becomes an equally challenging task. Yet if you grew up in the eighties in the French-speaking part of Europe watching Peugeots rule the rally scene, a nice 205 GTI will always be worth the trouble.

Peugeot's original GTI was launched with a 1.6 liter engine producing 115 horsepower in its upgraded form, after which came the 1.9 edition in 1986 with almost 130 ponies. There's a never-ending debate about whether the rev-happy small block or the stroked torque monster is the better four-pot of the two, but for most 205 fans, it hardly matters.

Jean Francois Majkowski seemed happy with his white 1.9 at first, but when his daughter, Sarah found a "Miami Blue carcass" with the smaller engine in its nose, they both knew what had to done. Two years later, it was time for some cassettes to roll.
