Yahoo Autos Hennessey Will Now Sell You an 842-Horsepower Cadillac Escalade
When it redesigned the Escalade in 2015, Cadillac gave it every luxury feature it could think of. The interior is a sea of wood and leather, while the exterior packs plenty of (too much?) chrome. And with GM's magnetic suspension, the Escalade rides far better than such a large SUV should. It's not slow, either. Under the hood is a 420-horsepower V8 that'll launch you to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. But if that's not quick enough, Hennessey Performance says it can now double the Escalade's power for you.
Called the HPE800, Hennessey claims its newest package is actually good for 842 horsepower, as well as 855 lb.-ft. of torque. Even with nearly 6000 lbs. to move, that's still an insane amount of power. Unsurprisingly, the HPE800 is quick. Really quick. 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.3 quick. For comparison, those figures are only a tick off the Corvette Grand Sport's pace.
Obviously, it takes quite a bit of work to safely double a car's horsepower. As a result, the HPE800 is pricey. The basic package costs $55,000, and if you want to upgrade your wheels, tires, and brakes, that'll be another $25,000. Oh, and that doesn't include the cost of the Escalade itself, which is at least another $72,970.
But if you want to race Corvettes in your large luxury SUV, it may be worth spending more than $125,000 on your Escalade. On the other hand, you could buy a slightly smaller BMW X5 M, which starts under $100,000, comes with a factory warranty, and is nearly as quick.
