It's almost impossible to fault the Porsche Cayman GT4. I mean, that's exactly what you'd expect when Porsche stuffs a naturally aspirated 3.8-liter flat-six in one of the finest mid-engine sports car chassis in the world. It's not quite perfect though, and that's where Sharkwerks comes in.

Sharkwerks is a California tuning firm that's best known for turning 911 GT3s and GT2s into high-horsepower monsters. With the Cayman GT4, its upgrades are subtle, but as Drivetribe's Henry Catchpole finds out, they add up to make a huge difference.

Our biggest complaint with the GT4 was its excessively tall gear ratios in its six-speed manual–Sharkwerks shortened the ratios between third and fifth gears for improved acceleration. While the people from Sharkerks had the gearbox disassembled, they installed a lighter flywheel to make the motor even quicker-revving.

Additionally, horsepower is bumped from 385 in the standard GT4 to a healthy 420. To round things out, Sharkwerks upgraded the GT4's limited-slip differential, installed a larger rear wing, and dive planes at the front.

This is hardly a crazy tuner car, but it doesn't really need to be. With the Cayman GT4, Sharkwerks starts with one of the best modern sports cars and simply refines it to perfection.
