Eleven years after Senna, the sports documentary craze has firmly wrapped back around to auto racing.

The most visible of Netflix's racing content is the Netflix Formula 1 megahit Drive to Survive and other docudramas that follow it in concept, but retrospectives like Uppity and Shelby American have cast a similar light on the great racing stories of the past. The next major racing documentary to hit streaming, Schumacher, will tackle one of the most successful drivers at any level of auto racing.

Like ESPN's 10-hour Michael Jordan myth-making marathon The Last Dance, the upcoming Michael Schumacher project is the story of a living god of the Nineties and early Aughts as told by the people who saw him at his very best. The project features talking heads from contemporary rivals like Mika Hakkinen, executive-level observers like Jean Todt, and, uniquely, admirers from later generations like Sebastian Vettel.
