Today's Nissan R35 GT-R is called Godzilla for a reason. It's immensely quick, and will take down cars that are twice as expensive with ease. It's packed full of technology, one of the most advanced weapons you can bring to a track day or an abandoned back road.
But before the R35 came to be, there was the R34 Skyline GT-R. It's a car that sits at the top of many enthusiasts' wish lists, considered one of the best cars ever made thanks to its fantastic handling and great engine.
Now, thanks to British outlet Auto Express, we're able to see just how different the two GT-Rs really are. The R34 might not have all of the advanced driver aides of its younger brother, but it still has a complex AWD system, full of computers helping the driver go as quickly as possible. It's also got a real, honest-to-goodness manual transmission-a far cry from the six-speed dual-clutch unit of the current car in terms of driver engagement.
There's no electronic stability control in the R34 either, which means full-lock sideways action can be achieved quite easily. The current car might have much more horsepower, a bunch of comfort for long trips, and electronic aids to help you set the fastest time on track, but the fun factor is something that can't be forgotten.
