Here's Why a Variable Intake Manifold Is the Best of Both Worlds

In a naturally aspirated engine, as air comes in through the intake and passes through the throttle body, you've traditionally had two setups for what happens next. Using longer, narrower intake runners results in the engine making more low-end power. And if you use shorter, wider intake runners, the engine ends up with more high-end power. Sounds simple enough.

But if you can use an intake manifold that can be both, then you don't have to choose. That's where variable intake manifolds come in. It's the sort of compromise that isn't actually compromised.
