The Honda Insight Is the First Hybrid Tuner Car

From Road & Track

The original Honda Insight was sort of an indirect replacement for the Honda CRX. It had the same small hatch shape, was lightweight, and wasn't high powered. But it was surprisingly fun to drive.

What it didn't really have was aftermarket support, which meant that the Insight lagged far behind every other Honda hatch in that department. But it seems all people needed to make an Insight quicker was time.

This particular Insight still has its stock drivetrain, but does have work done to make the steering quicker. But an interesting upcoming mod is a replacement of the battery packs to the lithium-ion units from the Nissan Leaf. That should effectively double the power of the little hatchback, increase the range, and improve the regenerative braking. Not a bad development for a car that most people have overlooked for 17 years.

And, better still, it's a hybrid that has a manual gearbox. That instantly makes it more fun. We can't wait to see how it works with more power.
