Infiniti's New Performance Badges Are Very Confusing

From Road & Track

A few years back, Infiniti decided it needed to change up its naming system for its cars. The result is one of the most confusingly named lineups on the market. But as it turns out, the company's new plan to badge performance models is about to make it even worse.

Auto Express reports that Infiniti plans to badge all performance models with an S. But if you want to know what kind of performance model it is, you'll have to also pay attention to the color. That's because everything from slightly sporty models to performance hybrids and even hardcore track-focused cars will only be differentiated by the color of their badging.

As Infiniti president Roland Krueger explained:

There is a little red S on the Q60, and you will find it going forward on all our performance vehicles. We will have a silver S for a performance pack, which will be wheels and some differentiation. And we will have a blue S for our direct response hybrid, which is our performance hybrid.

So if someone tells you they bought a new Infiniti, you'll first have to figure out what model the number in the name correlates with. Then you'll have to ask them if it has an S, and if so, what color it is. But you'll also probably have to clarify that you don't mean the color of the car itself. And once you finally get all that information, you might actually have an idea what car they're talking about.

Um . . . good luck with that.
