Interior and Passenger Space
Interior and Passenger Space Rating:
Sliding into the driver's seat of the E-class, one would be forgiven for thinking it was an S-class. The cabin is beautifully detailed with brushed aluminum, lovely wood, and some of the most comfortable seats we've ever tested. An optional fragrance diffuser fills the air with the aroma of your choice. The more scent-averse among our staff found it to be overpowering even at its lowest setting, but others preferred it versus the usual new-car smell. The rear seat isn't overly spacious-less so than the numbers indicate, but about average for this group of mid-size luxury sedans.
What's New for 2018?
The new Night package adds an all-black headliner to the E-class's interior (as well as a number of exterior garnishes) and an optional open-pore wood trim is available for the center console. Massaging front seats are now a stand-alone option for $1320 but still require the addition of the Premium 1 package. Three-zone automatic climate control is also a separate option for 2018 and costs $760.

Blind Spots, Visibility, and Obscured Roadway
Roof pillars protect occupants in a rollover crash, but they also create blind spots. We determine visibility by measuring the location and width of each pillar using an H-Point Machine and a laser beam (surrogates for a driver and eyeball, respectively). Front and rear visibility are calculated by subtracting the viewable area blocked by the pillars from a perfect 180-degree score.
Other than these new options, the cabin of the 2018 E-class is the same as the 2017 model. For more information on the interior, you can read our in-depth review.
