IRIS Helmets Integrated Camera System
The Brisbane-based company IRIS Helmets has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund development of a new helmet-mounted camera system. If successful, the DC-2 will have integrated front and rear video cameras to “record the user’s ride and provide supporting evidence in the event of an accident.”
Founder Jack Swan, a fourth year mechanical engineering student, saw the need for an all-in-one solution for a built-in recording system for riders. ”Motorcyclists are very much at risk on the road, and many try to insure themselves in the case of an accident by fixing a camera to their helmet,” he said. “In reality this is counter-productive to safety as fixed attachments can become lodged in obstacle when a rider is thrown from their bike, increasing the risk of fatal head and neck injuries.”
The DC-2 design incorporates the cameras and microphone within the helmet to minimize the hazards and eliminate the inconvenience of attaching external camera equipment. IRIS Helmets hopes to raise $150,000 to fund the project. More information is available at Kickstarter.com.
