To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of both Giugiaro's now Audi-owned Italdesign and Nissan's now non-Skyline GT-R, the two companies created a show car named GT-R50.

This prototype was designed by Nissan, but developed, engineered and hand-built by Italdesign Giugiaro in Turin. It's based on the 2018 GT-R Nismo, with a bunch of GT3 racing parts thrown in for good measure, including Brembo brakes and adjustable Bilstein dampers. All that tinkering led to a 720 horsepower GT-R with a custom body featuring cleaner lines and plenty of golden inlays.

This weekend, the GT-R50 will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, along with such rarities as the last two Koenigsegg Ageras, Singer's Williams-powered reimagined 911, and Lanzante's long-tail McLaren P1 GT. Unsurprisingly, Nissan's Head of Design Alfonso Albaisa says he "can't wait to hear the reaction of GT-R fans around the world":

Italdesign's CEO, Jörg Astalosch is equally enthusiastic about the car's first public appearance, since if it all goes well, his company can hand-hammer up to fifty GT-R50s, priced at over $1 million:

Together (with Nissan), we have the target that soon this ‘monster’ of a vehicle will change the lives of 50 very select enthusiasts. Their wait will soon be over.

This also means that we'll have to wait for the GT-R's next generation just a touch longer. But this 720 horsepower golden Godzilla might just worth our time.
