Let's get right to the good stuff: The XE SV Project 8 is equipped with a 592-horsepower 5.0-liter supercharged V8, connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels and an electronically-controlled limited-slip differential at the rear. The car wears lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber body panels; 0-60 comes in just 3.3 seconds, and top speed is 200 mph.

Standard on the Project 8 is Jaguar's first application of its new-generation carbon ceramic braking system, which uses Formula One-style silicon nitride ceramic wheel bearings - an industry-first for a road car, says the company. Suspension comes from the normal XE, double wishbones up front and integral link in the rear, upgraded with stiffer springs and manually adjustable continuously variable dampers.

Two-position front and rear carbon fiber wings, along with a flat under-tray and carbon fiber diffuser give the Project 8 269 pounds of downforce at 186 mph.

The Project 8 is also the first Jaguar to feature a dedicated track mode, which alters stability control systems, throttle response, and steering for the best possible driver feedback. The car comes in a four-seat configuration in North America, though buyers elsewhere will get the option of replacing the rear seats with a roll cage.

Only 300 examples of the Project 8 will be built, all in left-hand drive, and though U.S. pricing has yet to be announced, at today's exchange rate, the UK pricing of £149,995 equates to somewhere just north of $192,000. The car will be hand-assembled at SVO's new technical center in the U.K.

The XE SV Project 8 will make its first appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, so don't miss it. In the meantime, Jaguar's released a video of the Project 8 muscling up a hillclimb for us all to enjoy.
