How James Hinchcliffe Recovered from His Horrifying 2015 IndyCar Crash

From Road & Track

On May 18, 2015, during a practice session, James Hinchcliffe was involved in the most forceful crash in the history of IndyCar. A suspension malfunction caused him to hit the outside wall in Turn 3 and had to be rushed to the hospital after sustaining a 126 g impact.

What's worse, part of the suspension shot through the car, impaling Hinchcliffe's leg and piercing his femoral artery. The blood loss alone nearly killed him.

Hinch miraculously survived, but doctors told him he wouldn't be able to leave the hospital for a month and wouldn't be able to drive a car for at least six months. He beat those odds decisively: Just 10 days after the crash, the Mayor of Hinchtown left the hospital, and four months later, he was back behind the wheel.

Now, a year later, take a look back at that fateful event from Hinchcliffe's perspective, and hear him tell his amazing story of recovery.
