Kansas State basketball coach Jerome Tang landed his second recruit for the 2023 cycle on Sunday, when four-star guard RJ Jones, the top-rated prospect in Texas, announced his commitment to the Wildcats.

Jerome Tang said last week that Kansas State had two basketball commitments in the fold for the 2023 recruiting cycle, and on Sunday the second one stepped forward.

RJ Jones, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Plano, Texas, made the announcement live on Instagram with ESPN's Paul Biancardi, choosing K-State from a final six list that also included Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Boise State and Colorado.

"With coach Tang, when I was on the visit, it felt more like a family reunion than a business trip," said Jones, who took his official visit to Manhattan just last week. "It felt like I was really welcome.

"Obviously his pitch to me, what I could do coming in and making an impact as a freshman, sounded really good."

Jones is K-State's second four-star pledge for 2023, joining Chicago point guard Darrin Ames, who committed on July 20. Jones is ranked No. 1 in Texas and No. 64 overall nationally, according to 247Sports' composite ratings.

Jones, who is transferring to Wasatch Academy in Utah for his senior year, averaged 19.8 points per game as a junior at John Paul II High School in Plano. He also played for JL3 Elite on the AAU circuit.

Tang, who took over as K-State's head coaching March after 19 years as a Baylor assistant, was no stranger to Jones.

"He recruited me when he was at Baylor, and then as soon as he became K-State head coach, the first day, I was the first person to be offered by him," Jones said.

Jones also took official visits to Boise State, California, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

K-State now as a dynamic backcourt duo coming on board next summer. Ames is the top-rated prospect in Illinois and checks in at No. 49 nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings.
