A little more than two weeks from now, Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus wants to beat an entire army of Mercedes-AMG and Audi R8 LMS GT3 cars at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. At first, that may sound crazy coming from a small privateer team, but SCG's speed is right up there. The 003 Competizione, their Italian-designed and Honda-powered race car, ran a crazy fast qualifying lap, only to do another once the track got a bit drier, shaving another two seconds off that time to set the fastest lap of the race. That's no joke. If the car stays reliable and can avoid crashing throughout those 24 hours, then they really have a chance.

To show the car's true speed, Glickenhaus's crew also put together a video showing how their GT3-spec race car seems to be 17 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than a Porsche 918 Spyder was, also beating the current king Lamborghini Huracán Performante by 12 seconds.

Before watching the video, these are the details to keep in mind:

The Porsche and the Lamborghini are road cars, while the SCG 003C is not. However, to comply with the regulations, the SCG's engine was restricted to around 500 horsepower, and the car ran at the required GT3 weight of 2,976 pounds in damp, cold track conditions on race tires, with traffic all around. The two previous record runners had special "road" tires on them developed by Michelin (Porsche) and Pirelli (Lamborghini). In other words, we're rather skeptical about how readily available the tires used in a 'Ring record are for the average Porsche or Lamborghini buyer are.

We also know that the road-going, twin-turbo V8-powered SCG 003S has significantly more power, a similar weight figure and only slightly less downforce than the race car. With the footage at hand, Jim Glickenhaus' dream of running a 6:30 with the Stradale on road tires suddenly doesn't seem so far fetched after all.
