Tragedy struck Jimmie Johnson’s family in 2023 when his in-laws and nephew were discovered deceased after an apparent murder-suicide. The news left fans of the legendary racer in absolute shock and stirred up feelings in those who have lost loved ones in similar ways. Now Johnson is publicly thanking his fans for their unwavering support in the fallout of the tragic news.

Dodge’s NASCAR ban continues.

Johnson appeared on the Today Show recently where he took the time to thank everyone for “the support” offered to him and his family during the difficult time last year. He said the “fans far and wide have been extremely supportive, and that’s helped us through.”

Johnson pulled his No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet car from the NASCAR Cup Series even in Chicago after the murder-suicide, taking a break from motorsports and the public eye.

Back in June 2023 the Muskogee Police Department found 69-year-old Jack Janway, 68-year-old Terry Lynn Janway, and their 11-year-old grandson Dalton Janway all dead in their residence. Johnson and his family have stayed pretty quiet about the incident, with an official announcement made on his Instagram account on July 28, 2023, saying how “devastated” the family was by their loved ones’ deaths. It also thanked everyone for “the outpouring of love and support.”

Sadly, Terry Lynn Janway has been named as the suspect in the murder-suicide. She reportedly used a gun to carry it out. A female called police on that fateful night on June 26, saying someone had a gun before hanging up. When police arrived, they found one deceased at the front door of the house, then heard a gunshot as they walked into the residence. Searching the house further they discovered the other two bodies.

Not all is gloom for Johnson, who said during his Today Show appearance he’s excited to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which happens today, January 19.

Suicide is a horrific thing for the survivors, especially when the person decides to take others with them. If you or someone you know struggles with suicidal thoughts, please get professional help immediately.
