In a remarkable showcase of automotive history, the 1970 Plymouth Superbird, a model steeped in racing legend, is set to take center stage at the Kissimmee 2024 auction. This particular Superbird, a V-code variant and one of only 716 produced in 1970, stands out as an exemplar of preservation and authenticity. With a mere 5,444 miles on the odometer, this vehicle is a testament to the enduring allure of classic American muscle cars.

The Superbird's journey began when it rolled off the assembly line as the 200th Superbird and 100th V-code model. It was originally shipped to Ed Ousley Chrysler Plymouth, Inc. in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and since then has been meticulously maintained, retaining its original drivetrain, exhaust, belts, hoses, paint, interior, and glass.

Under the hood lies the matching-numbers 440 6 BBL engine, a powerhouse delivering 390 HP, paired with a Torqueflite automatic transmission. This rare bird is equipped with the A36 Performance Axle package, boasting 3.55 gears for enhanced performance. The car’s iconic High Impact EV2 TorRed exterior, complete with a black vinyl top and the unmistakable aerodynamic features – from the nosecone to the towering rear wing – epitomizes the distinctive style of the Superbird.

The interior remains untouched, featuring a classic bench seat, a Solid State AM radio, and a Beep-Beep steering wheel center, all contributing to its nostalgic charm. Riding on 15” Rallye wheels and adorned with Goodyear F60-15 Polyglas GT tires, this Superbird is a rolling piece of art.

Awarded for its preservation at the Meadowbrook Concours of America and Zzenith Certified in 2010, this Superbird comes with extensive documentation, including the original window sticker, factory invoice, and more, further solidifying its provenance. With period photos and sales ad clippings included, this vehicle is not just a car, but a slice of automotive history, offering a unique opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike at the upcoming auction.
