Yahoo Autos Kali Lewis named Bucyrus' interim city auditor
Bucyrus has a new city auditor: Kali Lewis was appointed to the position by the Crawford County Republican Central Committee on Thursday night, according to party chairman John Volk.
Lewis, who has served as a clerk in the Auditor's Office, will replace Joyce Schifer, who retired at the end of last year after 30 years with the city.
"I've worked in the office for five years, and someone needed to fill the position," Lewis said Friday. "They were having trouble filling it, and I decided I enjoy the community and it was the next logical step, I guess, to try to help the city through the financial hardships, possibly, of this next year."
Paperwork was to be filed with the Crawford County Board of Elections on Friday, Volk said, so Lewis should be able to take over her new duties quickly.
"Soon as that's filed, it's official," he said.
Lewis was sworn into office Friday by Crawford County Common Plea Judge Sean Leuthold in his courtroom, according to a city news release.
"She just seemed to have the best qualifications and ... maybe a little bit of the winning spirit, I guess," Volk said.
She plans to run for the position in November's election
Lewis will serve as interim city auditor until the end of this year. Voters will elect a new city auditor in November, and that person will take office Jan. 1. Lewis said she plans to run for the permanent position.
Her goal as auditor will be "just to keep the books balanced, keep the city running and fiscally responsible," Lewis said.
She said she will be available to residents at city hall if they need help or have questions; "They can feel free to stop in at any time."
She also encouraged others to get involved in city government.
"We actually have a couple positions on City Council open, so if anyone would like to stop at the board of elections and pick up a petition, our community would be very grateful."
