It's doubtful many think the 691-horse Aventador is underpowered, but on two occasions since its 2011 launch, Lamborghini has made hotter versions–the 710-hp 50 Anniversario, and the 740-HP SV. Lamborghini looks like it might give its V12 monster even more power because apparently, the Aventador S is on its way.

Autocar reports that it recently discovered a patent application for the "Aventador S" name, and received an invite to drive an updated Aventador next month. Lamborghini hasn't confirmed any details on the updated Aventador–or even the name, for that matter–but the launch invitation says the Aventador has a "new design, superior power and a mix of advanced technologies."

A camouflaged Aventador prototype was spotted testing at the Nürburgring in October, though it's unclear if the car in question was a base model, or the upcoming S. Autocar suggests the Aventador S could get engine upgrades similar to the limited-run, 770-hp Centenario, as well as a four-wheel steering.

The updated Aventador's name seems to be a reference to the Miura S produced between 1968 and 1971. The S improved on the base Miura with engine upgrades and additional luxuries, before being replaced with the Miura SV in 1971. Autocar reports that the Aventador S will slot in between the base car and the Aventador SV.

We likely won't have to wait long to see what Lamborghini has up its sleeve, but we have high expectations.
