Yahoo Autos This Land Rover Rally Car Is Actually an M3-Powered Drift Machine
Land Rovers a great for a lot of things. Off-roading. Long drives. Towing. One thing Landies aren't known for is stage rallying. Yet, this old Discovery seems to be doing a pretty good job at it.
This short Facebook video, posted by Retro Cars Daily, shows a Land Rover Discovery attacking an uphill 180-degree right-hander, getting completely sideways under power and quickly skirting out of view. How, you ask? As it turns out, that Martini-liveried Disco actually has an engine from a BMW M3 under the hood. We're not sure which M3, but it doesn't sound like the V8 from the E90 or the four cylinder from an E30. Our guess is it's from an E36 or E46.
Driver Oliver Maxwell, along with co-driver Matt Neal, brought the Bavarian-powered SUV to the Somerset Stages rally event in the United Kingdom back in April. He was able to finish 37th out of 84 entries, beating all sorts of Fiestas, Escorts, and even a couple of Subarus.
Not bad for an old British 4x4.
