Back in 2014 when Ford revealed its line-lock burnout mode for the then-new Mustang, it was only available with the V8 models. Well, with the 2018 refresh, Ford has announced line-lock will be standard on all Mustang models, including the turbocharged four-cylinder Ecoboost.

If you're not familiar with the electronic line-lock feature, here's a quick explainer: once the mode is activated, the car builds pressure in the front brake calipers, effectively holding the car in place. This allows the driver to lay on the throttle and spin the tires without the car moving, whether it be to warm them up in preparation for a drag launch, or just show off to your friends.

For the 2018 models, line-lock is standard on both 10-speed automatic and six-speed manual models. Ford even went through the trouble to design an animation of a tire spinning for cars equipped with the optional 12-inch digital display, just in case you're not sure what that would look like.

So if you always wanted to do a line-lock burnout but either felt buying a V8 was irresponsible or you're a fan of four-cylinder engines, your time has come.
