Listen to the Glorious Sound of this Ferrari 458-Powered Toyota 86

From Road & Track

Ever since the Scion FR-S (now Toyota 86) was first announced, tuners have been looking for ways to give it more power. Turbocharging, supercharging, and even a few engine swaps have been tried. But we have yet to see anything as crazy as Ryan Tuerck's nearly-completed Ferrari 458 Italia-powered Toyota 86.

As you can imagine, fitting a V8 designed for a mid-engine car into a space designed for a front-mounted boxer engine was quite a challenge. With enough money and time, though, it can be done. And while we won't see the completed car for a few more days, Tuerck and Donut Media were kind enough to post a video of the "GT4586" starting up for us to enjoy.

Oh my. That sounds fantastic. Then again, it's the naturally aspirated V8 from a Ferrari. Would you expect it to do anything other than make wonderful noises?

Donut Media also did a 40-minute Facebook Live broadcast where Tuerck answered questions and showed off a little bit more of what went into the build. If you have a Toyota 86 and a spare 458 Italia engine laying around, it's basically a step-by-step instruction manual for doing the swap yourself.
