In the world of classic cars, "barn finds" often capture the imagination of enthusiasts.

These are the stories of long-lost treasures rediscovered after being stored away for decades. And now, another remarkable discovery has emerged from obscurity. A 1938 Chevrolet Master Deluxe race car, which set speed records at the iconic Bonneville Salt Flats, has resurfaced after 50 years, captivating the automotive community.

This particular classic car was not found in a traditional barn but hidden away in a yard in Canada. The car's racing history dates back to the early 1950s when it was originally assembled as a tribute to Kenny Bigelow, a racer who tragically lost his life in a 1937 Chevy. Modified with lightweight components and custom fabricated parts, the 1938 Master Deluxe made its mark at the Bonneville Salt Flats from 1952 to 1956, reaching an impressive record speed of 150 mph (241 kph) in 1954.

After changing hands in 1957, the Chevy continued to compete until the early 1960s before disappearing from the racing scene. The car eventually found its resting place in the same yard where it had remained untouched since at least 1972, making it a remarkable time capsule. The incredible story of this 1938 Chevrolet Master Deluxe was documented by Ben Kahan on YouTube.

Although the interior of the car has been gutted and the front clip is incomplete, the car has survived five decades of storage remarkably well. The chassis and suspension remain in excellent condition, and the body shows minimal rust except for a few areas that require attention.

The race-prepped 270-cubic-inch (4.4-liter) GMC engine, along with many of its custom fabricated parts, has been stored in plastic crates and is still present with the car. The car's current owner, Justin, purchased it without initially knowing if it was indeed his grandfather's racing car. With the help of his grandfather's friends and fellow racers, Justin was able to authenticate the vehicle, matching it to the pictures he had seen throughout his life.

This heartwarming discovery holds great sentimental value for Justin, as he had always believed the car was lost or dismantled. Planning to restore the vehicle, Justin aims to bring it back to its former glory, resembling how it looked when it achieved its record-breaking speed at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the 1950s.

The story of the long-lost 1938 Chevrolet Bonneville record car is a testament to the enduring allure of classic automobiles and the emotional connection they hold for generations. The journey of this rediscovered gem serves as a reminder that hidden treasures can still be found, waiting to be brought back to life.
