This Is What Makes an RWB Porsche So Damn Special

From Road & Track

Gordon Murray once said that the McLaren F1 turned out great because it was a 'one man car,' meaning that it was created his way, and his way only. Now, an RWB Porsche is no McLaren F1. If we're brutally honest, it's just an old sports car with oversized wheel arches, wings, splitters and a bit of paint thrown in for good measure.

Yet all those tiny details add up to something that becomes much more than the sum of its parts, mostly because these Porsches are built by hand by a guy who only uses his eyes and a tape measure to get everything right. It's all in his head, and his fingers don't slip. His name is Akira Nakai, and he's in the magic business.

We all know the paint won't last on the tires, and the bumpers will be a real pain to replace once damaged, but who cares when you end up with a Porsche looking as good as one of these 'Rough World Concept' ones? We are big on the eighties right now, and it's good to go over the top for just the sake of it anyway.

Ben Harmony is a lucky dude. A living legend flew to his garage from Japan, only to build him the first RWB in Philadelphia in two days in front of his friends and family. It was a good build, and Chris Petruccio from Krispy Media and Anthony Purcell from Halycon were there to film the whole process in glorious 4K. It's quite a car, the Prince.

Did Nakai-san cut back on smoking, or is that just clever editing?
