Manor F1 Asked Rossi to Come Back After He Won the Indy 500

From Road & Track

Alexander Rossi, the Manor F1 reserve driver who fought his way to a shocking victory at this year's Indianapolis 500, has apparently been offered a full-time seat in one of Manor's cars for the remainder of the 2016 F1 season. He declined, choosing to focus instead on IndyCar and finishing his contract with Andretti Autosport.

Rossi tells U.K. publication Autosport that he's been approached by both Manor and another unnamed F1 team.

"There have been talks with Manor for a race seat and we've also been approached by another F1 team that's quite interesting," he said.

Rossi seems to like racing in the IndyCar series, as he cites the great working relationships and fierce competition as reasons for staying. He says he's also been approached by other IndyCar teams, and is currently discussing contracts with Andretti Autosport.

While he's a proven IndyCar winner, Rossi says his real passion is in Formula 1.

"I've invested most of my career in F1 and I would love to continue but as I've said all year, an F1 deal must be right."

It's a rare sight to see an American compete in Formula 1 these days, so we're hoping Rossi gets the deal he deserves when the time comes to jump into a Formula 1 car. And if it doesn't happen this year, we'll relish watching the rookie Indy 500 winner continue to compete in IndyCar.
