Mark Frye has been named the new City of Oconomowoc administrator.

A longtime Oconomowoc employee with more than 30 years of experience has been appointed the new city administrator.

According to Mayor Robert Magnus, the mayoral appointment of Mark Frye will be presented to the common council for its consideration and approval Dec. 7. Frye was chosen after the city received 22 applications and interviewed a select number of applicants.

Frye has served as the interim administrator since Matt Trebatoski resigned as city administrator in September. Trebatoski's resignation came just two weeks after he was arrested Sept. 5 for first-offense OWI, according to a town of Oconomowoc Police Department incident report. He was also cited for driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

"I have climbed the ladder of responsibility and projects and getting things done (in the city)," Frye said. "I'm thrilled the mayor and hopefully the common council will support me in this next step, and I look forward to doing it."

Frye has been employed with the city of Oconomowoc for nearly 32 years, according to a news release. During his time with the utility department, Frye served in multiple positions, including the utility technical operations assistant, utility coordinator and water operations manager.

Frye said he is "big on communicating and working together to get things done."

"That's one of the things that has helped me be successful within the public works role," Frye said. "This is a great city. We've got great department heads, we've got a great council. I'm just looking to communicate and get us working a little better together. ... I look to take both my operation experience and administrative experience and help the city continue to advance at the extremely high level that it has."

In 2006, he was hired for his current position as the director of public works.

"As the head of DPW, Mark has reviewed, implemented, presented, and/or lead many city projects, developments, budgets, street projects, stormwater fixes, snowplow operations and more through the years," the release noted. "Mark’s involvement with city operations goes beyond DPW and utilities assisting with building construction (ex: the public safety building), assisting with elections and more."

Magnus said the city is fortunate to have someone like Frye to lead it in the years to come.

"Over the past several weeks Mark has filled the role of interim city administrator and has done an exceptional job," Magnus said. "Our goal was to find an experienced individual that can tackle current and future challenges and opportunities in our vibrant and dynamic city. Mark possesses the skills needed to improve operational efficiencies, continue the fiscal conservatism agenda, enhance communication with the community, build a stronger administrative team and keep us safe."
