GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello: A Sommelier's DreamMaserati
  • Maserati has revealed a new one-of-one GranCabrio Folgore—and this one is for the wine lovers out there.

  • Like the production version, the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello uses three electric motors that combine for a monstrous 818 horsepower.

  • The exterior is finished in a beautiful red paint, but the true work of art can be found in the interior.

The conversation around one-of-one cars can quickly become pretty stale. We all love thinking about cars we'll likely never own, but they lose their luster when it seems the automaker has an infinite supply of special editions. The GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello—the newest one-of-one creation from Maserati's Fuoriserie customization division—doesn't lose any of its shine.

Unlike most one-of-one models that are inspired by the automaker's own history, the new Maserati is dedicated to Tignanello, an Italian wine by Marchesi Antinori whose family has been making wine for more than 600 years. The inspiration is clear from the moment you set eyes on the Tignanello.

The exterior is finished in a beautiful red shade that Maserati named Terra di Tignanello. According to the manufacturer, the color is inspired by the vineyard's soil, "reminiscent of the central red shades of Tignanello’s characteristic barriques (barrels)." Gloss black brake calipers are tucked behind matte black wheels. The badging sets itself apart from the exterior colors with a glossy copper color.

The real magic is found in the Tignanello's interior, which mixes brown leather with a silver and burgundy ribbed weave. The weave pattern is made from Vegea, a leather substitute derived from the vineyards. A plaque reading the dates "1971–2021" adorns the center console and refers to the first and current vintages of Tignanello. Imitating the printing on the vineyard's oak barrels, the interior features laser-etched dark briar wood.

Like the standard car it's built upon, the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello comes with all-wheel drive and uses a trio of electric motors to generate a combined 818 horsepower. The batteries are served by an 83.0-kWh battery pack. An 800-volt architecture means DC fast-charging at rates up to 270 kilowatts. On paper, the GranCabrio is good for up to 233 miles of range on the EPA cycle.
