PANAMA CITY — Get ready for an evening with exciting energy from award-winning contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Matthew West with The Brand New Tour coming to Panama City.

West’s Brand New Tour kicked off in early February, making stops in cities throughout the country, with a Panama City concert on the lineup for Sunday. Joining West will be Cain, a Christian country trio band, and Hannah Kerr, a Christian singer and songwriter.

The musicians will take the stage on Sunday at 7 p.m. at Hiland Park Baptist Church, 2611 N. U.S. 231.

Concert series: Grab your lawn chair! Lynn Haven’s spring concert series is in full swing.

Tickets range from $25 to $100 and are on sale at platformtickets.com. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Scott Bess of Hiland Park Baptist Church said more than a thousand tickets have been sold and he is elated to have West perform at the church.

“We’re looking forward to opening our doors this Sunday for these artists,” Bess said. “We love Matthew West and are excited to give our community the opportunity to see him in concert.”

The Brand New Tour spans 34 cities in America and features songs from West’s latest album, Brand New, which debuted in early 2020. West returned to the stage after a two-year tour break because of the COVID-19 pandemic and said it’s been an amazing experience in every city.

“It’s definitely a cool experience performing live, and we’re excited to come to Panama City. So many people are ready to just be together and feel that excitement again,” West told The News Herald. “Events like these have had hard times in the last two years. So, we hope that this concert is an opportunity to laugh, sing, and be reminded that hope is not lost even during hard times.”

An Illinois native, West launched his career working behind the scenes as a songwriter for Christian and country music genres. He dreamed of being a recording artist and toured as an independent musician before signing a record deal in Nashville, Tennessee.

The five-time Grammy nominee has received recognition from big music award shows, including an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award and a K-LOVE Fan Award, and he was named Billboard’s Hot Christian Songwriter of the Year.

As a recipient of the Rich Mullins Impact Award, West also received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for original music and lyrics for the title track for the feature film “The Heart of Christmas.” In addition, he was awarded Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Gold certification for his single “Hello, My Name Is” and RIAA Platinum certification for the song “The Motions.” Adding author to his list of accolades, West has written five books, shining his passion through the power of prayer and story.

“My faith has always been the driving force of my life, and I’m very thankful to see my dreams come true,” West said. “Music is a powerful thing, and combining that with hope is an important message in our world right now.”
