  • Mazda is recalling certain 2024–2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 models due to several software-related issues.

  • About 81K models have faulty dashboard electrical supply units and another 45K have software issues that could cause a loss of drive power.

  • Mazda will cover all of these fixes under warranty and notify owners by the end of the year.

Mazda has issued multiple recalls for the two-row CX-70 and three-row CX-90, both of which could be affected by software issues. Back on October 31, 2024, Mazda reported several recalls to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), including faulty dashboard electronics and software that can cause a loss of drive power. Each recall covers thousands of 2024 to 2025 Mazda CX-90s and 2025 CX-70s.

The issue surrounding the dash's electrical supply unit is the most widespread, affecting some 80,915 models combined. Mazda says when the plug-in-hybrid vehicles are started, the defroster, seatbelt warning, 360-degree camera system, and the battery's high-voltage cooling system might not work. To address the issue, owners will be notified to bring their vehicle to a Mazda dealer so that a technician can reprogram the dash's ESU software. This will be done for free.

The other two recalls involve fewer CX-90 and CX-70 models, but they're more serious because the faulty software could cause a loss of drive power. One recall affects 30,488 models. Both their powertrain control module and engine control module may malfunction, so they need to be reprogrammed by a Mazda dealer. This will be covered under warranty, and the automaker says owners will be notified by December 30.

The same owner-notification timeline and free-of-charge fix applies to the other recall. Mazda says 14,902 CX-90 and CX-70 plug-in hybrids have improper inverter software. This can cause warning lights on the dash to malfunction as well as a loss of drive power in EV mode. Mazda says owners should schedule an appointment with their local dealer, who will install improved inverter software to fix the problem.
