The newest McLaren is dubbed "Senna," named after the legendary driver. Perhaps you've heard of him. That name marked a break with McLaren tradition in that it isn't a bunch of numbers and letters. It's a real name.

And McLaren wants more real names.

According to Autocar, McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt would like to see future top McLarens–cars in its Ultimate Series–have names, not alphanumeric combinations. Super Series and Sports Series cars will retain the current model naming scheme of horsepower and letters.

McLaren has already started off pretty high with Senna, using the name of the driver most associated with the brand. But there are opportunities for more great names. The McLaren Bruce, the McLaren Hakkinen, the McLaren Coulthard, the McLaren Montoya. There are no shortage of great names that piloted McLarens over time, so if this is how McLaren is going about naming its future cars, we're all for it.
