British automaker McLaren is of course known for making some of the sexiest sports cars and supercars in the modern era. But when it recently revealed its new line of electric mountain bikes, we along with everyone else were shocked, no pun intended.

A Tesla Cybertruck owner can’t believe how much people hate his vehicle.

Since McLaren doesn’t do half measures, it says the Extreme 600 and Sport 600 are the most powerful street-legal electric bicycles on the market. When Race mode is engaged, the electric motor puts out a peak 852W power and more torque than the standard premium e-bike, or so the automaker claims.

Let’s just say you’re going to swallow a lot of bugs.

That kind of power is combined with a lightweight carbon-fiber frame, just like the lightweighting used to give McLaren cars tremendous power-to-weight ratios. There are four models: Extreme 600, Extreme 250, Sport 600, and Sport 250. The 600 models can hit a top speed of 20 mph.

All four models come with five power modes, each subsequent one providing more electric power: Off, Eco, Trail, Sport, Race. Riders can choose how much assistance from the electric motor they want on the trail or road, balancing that with range and personal fitness goals.

The Extreme models come with SRAM wireless XX Eagle Transmission 12-speed drivetrains. For the Sport models, there’s a mechanical SRAM GX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain, which seems to be the biggest difference between the two model lines.

McLaren drew another parallel between these bicycles and its cars through the digital display. The graphics which show up on an e-bike’s screen mimic what you see in a McLaren vehicle, with information like speed, battery life, and range all laid out in simply in full color.

If you want to grab one of these ultra-power, fast e-bikes from McLaren, you better get a move on it. Production is limited.
