The McLaren P1 GTR Is an Easy-to-Drive 986-Horsepower Track Monster

From Road & Track

We already know the McLaren P1 GTR is one serious machine. It's the track-only version of the automaker's top-of-the-line P1 hypercar, which means it's capable of astounding performance. But despite it's race-ready aerodynamics and 986-horsepower drivetrain, the P1 GTR is actually an easy car to drive.

Jethro Bovingdon of EVO got a chance to spend a couple of days on Anglesey Circuit in the UK to find out just how hardcore the McLaren track special really is. He finds out that, while the limits are certainly high thanks to all of that twin-turbo V8 power and hybrid torque, the P1 GTR is surprisingly approachable and easy to fling around the track.

At a tight track like Angelsey, the GTR's aggressive fixed aero can't be exploited, but Bovingdon is able to set a blistering 1:08.7 laptime. That's over two seconds faster than a normal P1, thanks in large part to the GTR's track-only racing slicks.

Watch for yourself as the P1 GTR slides around Anglesey in true supercar fashion.
