Yahoo Autos McLaren Wouldn't Enter IndyCar Full-Time Until It Starts Winning in F1 Again
With some of the dust settled from McLaren's shock announcement that Fernando Alonso would skip the Monaco GP in favor of the Indy 500 this year, our Marshall Pruett spoke with team boss Zak Brown about the news. In this episode of the Marshall Pruett podcast, Brown talks about what lead to Alonso's Indy entry and McLaren's interest in eventually establishing its own IndyCar Program.
Reflecting key McLaren shareholder Mansour Ojeh's comments last week, Brown says McLaren is seriously considering an IndyCar program as well as a return to Le Mans. Don't expect those programs to start next year, though. McLaren's got to get its main focus, Formula One, in better shape first.
"We've got big challenges on the Formula One front," Brown told Pruett. "We need to be getting that right and winning races before we set out in lots of other adventures."
