Hybrids haven't always had the best reputation with enthusiasts. Most, like the Toyota Prius, are slow and incredibly dull to drive. But if we've learned anything from the Holy Trinity of hypercars, it's that hybrids can be incredible drivers' cars too. And according to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, you'll be seeing a lot more hybrid McLarens in the near future.

Speaking with AutoExpress, Flewitt said his goal is for the entire McLaren lineup to use some form of electric power by 2025. Why? Blame stricter emissions regulations. "Our goal to move to 100 per cent hybridization by 2025 is the only way we can meet tough future emissions targets," Flewitt told AutoExpress. "I truly believe electric is the direction for McLaren and, eventually, the industry as a whole."

So while the upcoming replacement for the incredible 650S, potentially called the 720S, won't be a hybrid, the car that replaces the 720S most likely will be. AutoExpress also says Flewitt hinted that there may be an all-electric McLaren at some point, as well.

For fans of analog supercars like the original F1, this has to be disappointing news. But the P1 is proof McLaren knows how to build a performance hybrid. If future McLarens drive like that, maybe we won't mind the batteries and motors.
