If you happen to have Nissan's 2013 GT-R Nismo Nurburgring special with its Williams suspension in your garage, fear not: you can still be faster around the Nürburgring than a production Mercedes-AMG GT R. In any other case, you'll need either a top-level Radical, some sort of hypercar, or the world's fastest electric prototype to beat the Benz that was "developed for the 'Green Hell.'" As it turns out, they've created a ridiculously capable car.

Germany's Sport Auto put its test driver Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel, with AMG's GT R running on road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. 577 horses, four-wheel steering, and enough time spent at the Nürburgring resulted in a lap time of 7:10.92 seconds. That's wow territory. More than 36 seconds faster than the fastest front-wheel drive car and only 11 seconds slower than a 740 horsepower, all-wheel drive Lamborghini Aventador SV.

What's next for AMG? Here's a clue!
