Launching a new car with a special edition has become a habit among premium carmakers. Typically filled to the brim with options, the “Edition 1” versions by Mercedes-AMG don't just offer an attractive package of options, they also come with a specific look and style.

Now Mercedes-AMG is using the occasion of the Nürburgring 24-hour race to launch the Edition 1 of the GT63 S 4-Door. The new GT 4-Door already is one of the most stunning sedans out there, and the Edition 1 treatment makes it even more desirable.

The Edition 1 package is offered only on the range-topping GT63 S, not on the GT53 or the GT63. That means it comes with the 630-hp variant of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which is capable of hurling the GT to 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds (according to AMG) and on to a top speed of 195 mph. (All versions of the GT 4-Door have 4Matic all-wheel drive as standard.)

The Edition 1 includes the optional aero package as standard, which features a front splitter and aero “flics,” an upgraded diffuser, and an adjustable rear wing. The 21-inch wheels get black accents, and the only available paint color is matte Graphite Grey. Edition 1–specific matte grey stripes adorn the side sills, hood, roof, and decklid.

Inside, the Edition 1 is distinguished by yellow seat belts, yellow stitching, carbon-fiber trim, and specific Edition 1 badging. Magma Grey and Black serve as contrast colors for the leather and microsuede upholstery.

We like the AMG GT 4-Door any way it comes, but in Edition 1 trim, it’s particularly striking. The model is not limited in absolute numbers, but only in terms of time; the Edition 1 will only be available for the 2019 model year. The GT63 S will hit dealers in early 2019.
