Mercedes-AMG Might Be an Awesome 80s Tuner in Disguise

From Road & Track

Do you remember the eighties, when European tuning companies like Zender, Gemballa or even the then independent AMG would take a classy Mercedes, and turn it into a riot with a bright paint job, fatter tires and a full widebody conversion? Well, in 2016, Mercedes-AMG will do exactly the same for you, in a bit more sophisticated manner.

What sort of a person buys a matte gray Merc with yellow wheels and equally yellow stripes all around the body? I guess those wealthy individuals who would also consider getting a cannon that shoots greasy V8 engines at their enemies just for the fun of it.

But whoever goes for this over the even more expensive BMW M4 GTS will get something quite special from AMG's garage. With its sharper steering, clever electronic dampers, carbon-ceramic brakes and 510 horsepower twin-turbo V8, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Edition 1 almost makes you forget that you couldn't have Mercedes' new 9-speed gearbox with all those goodies, simply because only their seven-speed can take the torque of 516 foot pounds.

I can't wait to see this engine in an Aston Martin.
