From Road & Track

We know a lot about Mercedes-AMG's F1-powered hypercar, but very few specific details. Mercedes won't reveal everything about the Project One until the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall, but thankfully, we're learning all sorts of neat things to whet our appetites. Like, that'll make 1020 horsepower from its hybrid drivetrain.

That's the word from Automobile, which reports that the hypercar's 1020 horsepower comes from a 748-hp internal combustion engine and 408 hp from four (!) electric motors. The Project One will have an electric motor for each front wheel, allowing for aggressive torque vectoring, one bolted to the crankshaft, and one for the turbocharger.

Mercedes says the Project One's gas engine, derived from its 1.6-liter V6 F1 unit, will spin to 11,000 rpm, and that it requires a "substantial service" after just 31,000 miles. Combine all that with race-inspired aerodynamics, and the Project One should lap the Nürburgring in well under seven minutes. All while burning less fuel than an AMG A45 lapping the same circuit.

While we have to wait to see the Project One in real life, Mercedes already showed it to prospective customers at a private event in Geneva last month. And, unless you're already on the automaker's list of potential US customers, sorry, you're not getting one. Automobile reports that 225 of the 250-275 units to be built are already spoken for.

With details like these trickling out, we can't wait to see this car.
