The Mercedes-Maybach 6 Concept Is a 738-Horsepower Electric Luxury Yacht

From Road & Track

We've seen teaser shots all week of the newest concept car from Mercedes-Benz, and now, it's finally, officially here. Say hello to the fully-electric Mercedes-Maybach 6.

The car, designed as an ultra-luxurious 2+2, is absolutely humongous. Over 18.5 feet long, it dwarfs pretty much anything else currently on the road. Thanks to its underfloor-mounted battery, the designers were able to mold a car with what Mercedes "classic aesthetic proportions," like the long hood, low roof line, and rearward greenhouse positioning. While it features a plethora of design cues for future Mercedes products, we really dig the throwback gullwing doors.

Turning back to the battery, it has around 80kWh worth of capacity, resulting in an impressive 200-mile EPA-estimated range. Oh, and it's capable of outputting a staggering 738 horsepower. Not bad for a big luxury car.

Mercedes equipped the Maybach 6 with some clever technological features as well. It has a maximum charging capacity of 350kW, meaning in just five minutes, 62 miles of range can be added to the battery with a wired connection. And if you're looking for even more convenience out of your ultra-luxurious electric coupe, it can be charged wirelessly via an electromagnetic field.

The Maybach 6 has four magnet synchronous electric motors, putting that horsepower to all four of it's 24-inch (!) wheels. Mercedes estimates 0-60 mph takes less than four seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. For a car that looks like it weighs around three tons, those are some impressive numbers.

The interior is full of swooping lines, and plush-looking materials, meant to produce "a luxury experience of the highest order," per a Mercedes press release. It uses a combination of high-quality leather and Elm wood, along with authentic rose gold to create 'luxurious accents.' There's plenty of futuristic-looking tech inside as well, because this is a concept car, isn't it?

The Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept will be on display this weekend during Monterey Car Week, and featured on the lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance this Sunday. If you're stopping by, try to grab a seat inside the future of Maybach.
