If a car from Mercedes-AMG is the fastest, muscley-est, and angriest car that Mercedes will sell you, then a car from Mercedes-Maybach is the comfortable-est, luxurious-est, and bespoke-est car you can get.
Maybach's return as an ultra-luxury trim level instead of a standalone brand has created the Mercedes-Maybach S600 sedan, which is the S-Class to be driven in, not to drive. Ever. Now, we have this, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, which promises to take the already luxurious S-Class cabrio and somehow make it even more comfortable and relaxing.
Like the S65 AMG Cabrio, the S650 has a twin-turbocharged 6.0 liter V12 with 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque linked to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes hasn't supplied a 0 to 60 time, but the S65 does it in about four seconds, so this should be similar.
Also, buyers of a Maybach won't really care at all.
What's different? Well, it gets a new bumper, huge forged wheels, and other chrome details that essentially tell other motorists to get the heck out of your way.
The interior is where you'd really expect Maybach to lay on the proverbial luxury, but it seems to be more about balance and creating an environment than out and out over-the-top Trumpian gold luxury.
In fact, the cars coming to the USA are available in just three configurations: Zircon red over a porcelain and black interior, Piano Lacquer flowing lines trim, and a black top, Cote d'Azur blue with a porcelain and saddle interior, Magnolia Nut brown trim, and a beige top, or diamond white with a porcelain and blue interior, magnolia nut flowing lines trim, and a dark blue top.
Each car comes with matching luggage, a car cover, a key ring made of nappa leather, and a certificate signed by Dieter "Dr. Z" Zetsche, the head of Mercedes-Benz cars.
The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet will not be on every corner and in every driveway. Just 300 will be built, with 75 of those making their way to the USA. Pricing is yet to be announced, but expect it to be very expensive, especially since the S65 Cabrio starts at $247,900.
