This Might Be the Single Greatest Save in Motorcycle Racing History

From Road & Track

If you've ever been on a motorcycle and had something go wrong, you know how quickly a small mistake can turn into a big problem. And when your bike starts to slide unexpectedly, it can be almost impossible to recover. Heck, even missing a little bit of dirt or gravel in a corner can send you to the hospital.

Knowing how bad a motorcycle wreck can be makes the below video even harder to watch. At the Misano World Circuit during the 1985 San Marino Grand Prix, Honda rider and noted madman Randy Mamola begins to high side, and yet, somehow, he doesn't. How he managed to not only stay out of the hospital but also on his bike, I have no idea. That's the kind of situation where almost any other rider would go headfirst into the pavement. And yet somehow he was completely fine.

Was it instinct? Skill? Luck? Divine intervention? A combination of all four? Whatever it was, Mamola's save here is incredible. One second it looks like all hope is lost, and the next, he's coasting through the grass like nothing happened. No wonder the man's a legend.
