This Mini Just Set a Blistering Nurburgring Lap Record

From Road & Track

Four-wheeled Nürburgring records are so passé. Seemingly every automaker has taken home some sort record at the famous German track, but Chinese stunt driver Han Yue just blew all of them out of the water. Yue now holds the record for the fastest two-wheeled automotive lap of the 'Ring, setting a barely believable time of 45 minutes.

Amazingly, Bridge to Gantry reports that Yue had a problem with one of his tires, preventing him from going any faster. The rear tire vibrated above 20 km/h (12.4 mph), so Yue only managed an average speed of 28 km/h (17.4 mph) on the lap.

Balancing on two wheels requires strong tires, which is why Yue's Mini ran with solid-construction offroad tires wrapped around six-lug wheels. Other than the vibration, the tires were hardly worn out by the stunt.

Bridge to Gantry also reports that this was the first-ever record-setting Nurburgring setting lap streamed live on Facebook.

Ok, so Yue's Mini isn't Porsche 918 quick, but this record is equally as impressive. The Nurburgring is a challenging course with all four wheels on the ground–holding a car for two wheels through all the corners and elevation changes is hard work.
