Minnesota Car Thieves Get A Taste For Luxury Rides

Dealerships reportedly are beefing up security in response.

Car thieves in Golden Valley, Minnesota have acquired a taste for the finer things in life, targeting luxury car dealerships as a result. One of the alleged thieves has been arrested, however it seems police haven’t caught up with the rest of the theft ring.

Back in the middle of August there was a rash of thefts from dealerships in Golden Valley. While some of the vehicles stolen were rather common, like a Subaru Forester, others were far more valuable. However, these thieves don’t seem to be all that sophisticated, using other stolen vehicles to ram garage doors to gain access to service departments and showrooms, a tactic employed by some of the least professional thieves out there.

Despite their methods being brutish, these guys were able to swipe a new Maserati Ghibli and a Porsche 911. Both cars are worth exceptional amounts, however only the Italian luxury sedan was recovered in good condition.

The Porsche was recovered after police detectives spotted it in downtown Minneapolis and blocked the vehicle in. The suspect behind the wheel tried using the 911 as a battering ram, but he wasn’t successful in getting away. Instead, the car is seriously damaged and he got arrested.

As for the Maserati, it was recovered without trouble, so hopefully the dealership doesn’t take a bath on that one. A 2013 Chevy Camaro that was also stolen by the theft ring was recovered but with extensive damage to the driver’s side. Four other vehicles were also recovered by police.

Oddly enough, there seems to have been only one arrest reported in connection to all these thefts. We’re not sure exactly how that works but hope detectives are hot on the trail of the rest of the thieves. After all, they have a taste for expensive luxury cars, something we doubt they’re going to abandon easily.
