Yahoo Autos With the Right Mods, A 911 Cabriolet Can Be a Serious Track Monster
When it comes to on-track driving, many convertibles are left out of the fun-their decreased structural rigidity and added weight lead most die-hards to opt for a tin-top. The folks at HG Motorsports decided to buck that trend, building a Porsche 911 Cabriolet that's a capable trackday beast and a wind-in-your-hair cruiser.
In addition to the roll cage required for circuit driving, this 997-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet received a host of suspension and powertrain upgrades. Widened front fenders, an extended splitter, and an acid green tow hook occupy the exterior, along with some absurdly wide carbon fiber wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
The 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six now puts 675 horsepower to the wheels, up from the stock 530 horsepower at the crank. Power is sent to all four corners via a dual-clutch PDK transmission.
Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire got a chance to get behind the wheel of HG Motorsport's creation, and finds this convertible should be appreciated as a capable track machine, even if there is a little chassis flex over bumps.
