Yahoo Autos More Aston Martin-Red Bull Supercars Are Coming
One of the most exciting automotive partnerships today is between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing. The two are currently working on the Valkyrie (shown above), a 1000-plus-hp hypercar that promises to be unlike any road car before it. Today, Aston and Red Bull announced that they are strengthening their "Innovation Partnership," with more collaboration on the way.
Aston and Red Bull say that the Valkyrie is "set to be the first in a line of incredible products" to come from this partnership. To develop these future products, the two companies are opening up an "Advanced Performance Centre" at Red Bull Racing's Milton Keynes, UK facility. Aston Martin will hire 110 new design and engineering personnel to work at the Advanced Performance Centre as well.
The two companies are strengthening their F1 partnership as well, with Aston Martin becoming the title sponsor for Red Bull in 2018. Aston Martin also seems to be considering a role as an F1 engine supplier as early as 2021, though CEO Andy Palmer says the automaker would only take this on "if the circumstances are right."
Separately, Red Bull F1 executive Helmut Marko told press today that the team could switch to Honda engines in the future. Red Bull's second-tier team, Toro Rosso, will use Honda power next year as its previous engine supplier, Renault, enters an F1 partnership with McLaren. Per Marko, if Toro Rosso and Honda work well together next year, Red Bull might drop its Tag Heuer-branded Renault engines for Honda powerplants.
It's unclear what Aston Martin and Red Bull's next product will be. Aston Martin has announced that it's working on a mid-engine supercar to rival the Ferrari 488, but it's unclear if this future model will be part of the Red Bull collaboration.
